The Game

Description

"Raven, why are you a shapeshifter?" I asked with genuine curiosity.
The Trickster grinned weakly at me and through lidded eyes content with His plan
He told me about the deception and about never showing His true form. His voice was unfamiliar to me but kept me second-guessing if I had heard it before.
"Does a Trickster have a true form?" I asked, unknowingly playing right into His game.
'Or does the form express Truth?' He barked at me. His eyes were alight in the Divine notion that I was beginning to succumb to His charms.
"But I saw you struggle in those forms, once you even turned into a horse!
'I did', He replied. 'That is truth.'
Then why did you turn into a horse?" I found myself becoming agitated by double-talk. "Isn't it exhausting keeping up all of those guises? Would it not be easiest to just be Raven instead of a horse or something else?"
Raven replied, 'It would appear to be easy but I struggled for a simple reason. I am not a horse.'
"Why did you turn into a horse if it was not you?" I was tiring from His game.
Raven replied, 'To learn the truth of being a horse.' He had my interest now and some of my ire.
"But you trick people, you can't know Truth!" I roared back in anger.
The Tricker chuckled, 'Or perhaps my game is to know the one truth in all forms and for me to deceive you into thinking that I'm struggling."
"But you just said you struggled as a HORSE!' I cried.
Lowering His voice to a cat-like purr he whispered to me, "Good, then you're playing the game." Even though I was not facing Him, I could feel His stare. I knew He had changed forms again and I was the one struggling. He had used my voice, my mouth and had taken my form.

First of all I can easily say that this is one of the most unique pieces I’ve ever seen and certainly one of the most difficult to critique but here goes.

The style is exceptional and the odd choice of colours such as the pinks and purples mixed in with the blues and greens really adds a whole new layer to this piece. It is created in such a way that it becomes quite a powerful piece to look at. At first glance is hard to make out what it is but slowly starts appear the longer you stare. It has an almost magical feeling to it with the specks of light from the sun beams and the contrast of the dark clouds above. I also really like the blue lines on the crows head giving it a windswept feeling to it.

One complaint I do have is the background has a little too much going on and keeps taking the focus away from the crow. Maybe if the colours were toned down slightly or a thin outer glow added the crow to help it stand out would help a little.

Overall though I can easily say this is one of the most interesting pieces I’ve seen in a while. This is not usually my kind of thing but I really do like this piece and could easily see somebody hanging this up in their study or office. Great work.
